Construct dynamic, textured, mixed media surfaces with machine embroidery and water-soluble stabilizer. In this workshop with Toronto-based artist Amanda McCavour, participants will be encouraged to experiment with an assortment of materials like plastics, papers, and yarns to create a variety of samples exploring different texture and colour combinations to create sculptural embroidered pieces. The $35 kit fee includes all materials. Participants are responsible for bringing their own sewing machine (including extra needles and bobbins).
An additional $35 Kit Fee is payable direct to Instructor
Amanda McCavour uses a sewing machine to create thread drawings and installations. She is interested in thread's assumed vulnerability, its ability to unravel, and its strength when it is sewn together.
McCavour shows her work internationally. In 2018, she has had solo exhibitions in Annapolis Royal (NS), Antigonish (NS), Stratford (ON), and Tulsa (OK). She is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including scholarships from The Canada Council for the Arts, The Ontario Arts Council, The Toronto Arts Council, The Handweavers and Spinners Guild of America, Craft Ontario, The Surface Design Association and The Embroiderers Guild of America.
